After oversleeping on Sunday I drove out to Treasure Island for a kite festival. There I found avid flyers and locals, families and individuals. I spent about an hour that afternoon with one family that brought four generations out to play in the cool ocean breeze.
Watching the family frolic in the sand I was reminded of my own childhood. It was all so carefree and fun, a Sunday spent with mom, grandma, great-grandma, and others. Even looking at the pictures later I'm struck by how peaceful it made me feel.
I also met a tractor-trailer driver who recently bought a one of a kind $2,300 kite from a designer in New Zealand. 30 feet wide and 100 feet long from top to bottom, the giant red, white and blue kite was quite a spectacle. People on the beach kept asking if I had seen the big heart kite.
It was pretty impressive as it rose into the sky.
